POCATELLO, ID—JUNE 10, 2020-Dr Tool, a son of a leading second-crop sire Kiss My Hocks, extended his win streak to three on Wednesday night by defeating Calida by ¾'s quarters in the $39,740 Adequan© Pocatello Downs Derby Challenge.
The 3-year-old went wire-to-wire, under jockey Jesus Valenzuela, while completing the 400 yards in :19.828 seconds, equaling a 102 speed index.
Owned-and-trained Luis Gonzalez, Dr Tool has compiled a (10) 3-2-2 record and the $18,280 winners' purse boosted the bay gelding's earnings total to $45,076. Andy Caulo bred Dr Tool in Texas from the One Famous Eagle Where Eagles Soar.
Dr Tool also picked up his second berth to the $150,000-est. Adequan® Derby Challenge Championship(G3) to be run October 24th at The Downs in Albuquerque. He broke his maiden in the Adequan® Weber Downs Derby Challenge on May 24th.
Lazy Creek Ranch bred the brown filly in California from the Sixes Royal mare The Fire Fly. Ridden by jockey Eric Ayala, Calida earned $7,948 to bring her earnings total to $28,602.
Mark Hanson trainee Brilliant Cut Cartel was another ¾'s back to pick up $3,974 for owner's RTM Stables Inc., Robin Dunn and Kevin Dunn. Francisco Rubio rode the son of leading third-crop sire Coronado Cartel from the Azoom mare Azoom Diamond. Monty McNair is the breeder. The multiple stakes-placed Brilliant Cut Cartel has won three of nine starts and earned $28,170.
Shidacious, Thrill Of The Cartel, Sables Dashin, Meghans Feature Sign, El Rayo Amarillo, Df Mr Corona and Hez Our Joy completed the field.
