PORTLAND, OR—DECEMBER 16, 2018—Coming off a seventh place effort in the Grade 1 Bank of America Challenge Championship last month at Los Alamitos Race Course, Corona B Gone dug in to hold off a game Sneakin Tr by a neck in the $17,000 Portland Meadows Championship Bonus Challenge on Sunday.
Ridden by jockey Lorenzo Lopez, Corona B Gone completed the 440 yards on a sloppy raining racecourse in :21.906 seconds, equaling a 103 speed index. It was the sixth career win for the 3-year-old son of Favorite Cartel and the winner's purse boosted his earnings to over $55,000.
Sneakin Tr, a 7-year-old Tr Dasher gelding owned by Connie Chumbley and trained by Scott Raley finished second. Jockey Robert Burney had the riding call aboard the multiple stakes-placed gelding from the Splash Bac mare Sneak Bac. Gary Chumbley is the breeder. Purse earnings were not available at press time but the gelding has earned more than $60,000.
Cm One In A Bluemoon finished half-a-length back in third for owners Nick Lowe and Randy Dickerson. Javier Matias had the riding call for Lowe, who also conditions the son of Ivory James. Dickerson bred the 3-year-old multiple stakes-placed gelding from the Jess Louisiana Blue mare Cool Blue Corona. He earnings over $35,000.
For Sweet Jess, Shez Sneakin Fast, Favorite Bling, Ag Favorite Cartel and Preachin Lady Star completed the field.
