PORTLAND, OR—DECEMBER 17, 2017—John Deere Emerald Downs Juvenile winner Cm Boom Shakalaka got his second career stakes win on Sunday with a one-length victory in the $28,350 Baxter Andruss Futurity at Portland Meadows.
Away alertly under jockey Luis Gonzalez, the fastest qualifier Cm Boom Shakalaka defeated stablemate Cm One Ina Bluemoon. Corona B Gone finished half-a-length back to take third.
Saddled by trainer Nick Lowe, Cm Boom Shakalaka moved mid-track after clearing the field to complete the 400 yards in :20.073 seconds, a 97-speed index. It was the fifth win in seven starts for the son of multiple stakes sire Carters Cartel. The $11,340 winners' purse boosted the bay gelding's earnings to $34,849.
An Oregon home-bred racing for owner-breeder Randy Dickerson, Cm Boom Shakalaka won the John Deere Emerald Downs Juvenile Challenge in August and was also a finalist in the John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship(G2) at Los Alamitos and the Bitterroot Futurity at Sandy Downs this season. He is out of the Dash Ta Fame mare Mi Fames A Dandy.
