Zoomin Racer Races to AQHA Distance Challenge Championship Victory

QUARTER RACING JOURNAL—OCTOBER 14, 2017—Zoomin Racer was a prompt even-money favorite in Saturday's $105,000 AQHA Distance Challenge Championship (G1) at Prairie Meadows.

Owned and trained by Fernando Carrete of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Zoomin Racer covered 870 yards in :45.318 and recorded a 101 speed index on a sloppy and sealed track. Ricky Ramirez rode the 4-year-old bay son of Jess Zoomin, who returned a $4 win mutuel.

Zoomin Racer was bred by Jerry Windham of College Station, Texas, and he was making his Prairie Meadows debut on Saturday. The gelding has won his last four outs, including the Grade 3, 870-yard AQHA Lone Star Distance Challenge on September 29.

All told, Zoomin Racer has won five of 15 starts, including four of six at the 870 trip. The $51,450 winner's share of the purse from his second career stakes score bumped his earnings to $101,524.

Trubador Dan finished second, 2 3/4 lengths behind Zoomin Racer.

Trainer Kasey Willis saddled runner-up Trubador Dan for owners Pat Hybarger. Alfredo Trubador rode the 4-year-old Pool gelding out of Jess Amy by Feature Mr Jess. Bred in Texas by Charles Hale he picked up $22,050 for second.

Last year's Distance Challenge Championship winner Rare Ed earned $11,025 for third. Roddina Barrett saddled the Dean Miracle gelding from the Corona Cartel mare Mr Corona Jet. Luis Gonzalez was riding. Ronald Martin in the breeder.

Defending champion Rare Ed, Juno Dat Timber, Rock A Billy, CJs Rocksolid, and Thespeedprofessor completed the order of finish.
