Trubador Dan Steps Up in AQHA Distance Challenge

CLAREMORE, OK—SEPTEMBER 24, 2017—Kicking off the year with a 6-¼ length win for a $5,000 tag at Remington Park, Trubador Dan punched his ticket Sunday to the $105,000-Guaranteed Grade 1 AQHA Distance Challenge Championship by getting up at the wire a head in front of Thespeedprofessor in the $35,370 AQHA Will Rogers Distance Challenge.

Ridden by jockey Alfredo Triana, Jr. Trubador Dan completed the 870-yard course in :45.417 seconds, a 97-speed index into a 12-mph crosswind.

Trainer Eddie D. Willis saddled the 4-year-old son of Pool to his fourth win in five starts this season for owner Pat Hybarger. The $16,978 Distance winners' purse boosted his career earnings to $46,639.

Charles Hale bred the sorrel gelding in Texas from the Feature Mr Jess mare Jess Amy. His only loss this season was third-place effort in the Bobby Dan Crenshaw Memorial Stakes at Ruidoso Downs on July 29.

Trubador Dan's expected next start will be the Grade 1 AQHA Distance Challenge Championship at Prairie Meadows during the Bank of America Challenge Championships, Saturday October 14th.

Darling Farms' Thespeedprofessor made the lead before getting caught at the wire under jockey Mario Delgado. Michelle Hurdle trains the graded stakes-placed son of Furyofthewind out of Dreams For Lyndsie by Takin On The Cash. Bred in Oklahoma by Kirk Goodfellow, Thespeedprofessor earned $7,251.

Madewell, a son of Jess Jones, stepped up from a $16,000 claiming race June 30th at Fair Meadows to finish two-lengths off the leaders in third-place. Brian Muse conditions the 3-year-old for owner/breeders Davy and Ray Madewell. Out of the A Streak Of Cash mare Streakin Peacock, Madewell picked up $3,537 for his effort.
