ALTOONA, IA—Faster Than Hasta broke slowly under jockey Cody Smith but rallied to catch Cr Game Changer by a neck in the $53,100 John Deere Prairie Meadows Juvenile Saturday afternoon. Df Girly Girl finished half-a-length back in third.
Owned by John Johnson and conditioned Robert Johnson, Faster Than Hasta covered the 350 yards in :17.705 seconds, a 90 speed index into a 15 mph crosswind to pickup his second stakes win of the season.
Bred in Wyoming by Wardell Quarter Horses, Faster Than Hasta has compiled a (7) 3-2-0 record and the $24,426 Juvenile winner's purse boosted his career total to $62,721.
The win also garnered the bay gelding a starting spot in the $150,000 Guaranteed John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship(G2) on October 29th at Los Alamitos Race Course.
Jason Olmstead saddled multiple stakes-placed Cr Game Changer to his second place finish for owner/breeders Curt and Dick Tobin. Brayan Velazquez rode the Game Patriot filly from the Streakin La Jolla mare Lw Evening Lajolla. Bred in Iowa, the sorrel filly eared $10,620 to bring her earnings total to $61,072.
The lightly raced Df Girly Girl picked up $5,310 for her third place effort. Miguel Banuelos trains the Pappasito filly for owner Jesus Alberto Lugo-Vargas. Sammy Hester bred the dun filly in Oklahoma from the Bold Episode mare Bold Aldebaran. Raul Gutierrez was up.
Stel Cute, Aregal Rainbow, Perkin Desire, Hals Flying Eagle, Corona Springs, Into The Fray and Classy In Wranglers completed the field.
