MEXICO CITY, MEX—JULY 28, 2016—San Lazaro de Arara's Agent Provocateau won the last of four trials by three lengths on Sunday to set the fastest qualifying time for the John Deere Mexico Juvenile Challenge.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Hipodromo de Las Américas on Sunday, August 14th to vie for the winner's share of a $35,000-added(US) purse. The winner will also earn a starting spot in the $150,000-Guaranteed John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship(G2) at Los Alamitos Race Course October 29th.
Under jockey M. Gonzalez, Agent Provocateau covered the 350 yards in a quick :17.290 seconds to set the top qualifying time. Rafael Alejandro Contreras Gonzalez conditions the California bred daughter of multiple stakes sire Walk Thru Fire.
Luis Miguel Albores Gleason bred the $28,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate from the Teller Cartel mare Favored.
One Shining Ocean, a gelded son of first crop sire Shining First Dash, won the second trial by 1½ lengths to get the second fastest time :17.460 seconds. The same team of owner, trainer and jockey of Agent Provocateau also handle One Shining Ocean.
Muller Racing, LLC bred the gelding in Texas from the Ocean Runaway mare Tempting Ocean. One Shining Ocean is a $5,00 TQHA Sale graduate.
