Double Derby Winner Sets Top Adequan Retama Mark

SELMA, TX—JULY 24, 2015—Two-time derby winner Volcoms Thunder got his fifth consecutive win Friday night while posting the top qualifying time for the Adequan Retama Derby Challenge at Retama Park.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Retama Park on Saturday, August 8th and vie for the winner's share of a $25,000-added purse going 400 yards. Also at stake is a starting spot for the winner in the $200,000-Guaranteed Adequan Derby Challenge Championship(G2) on November 7 at Lone Star Park.

Coming off a win in the Firecracker Derby on July 3, Volcoms Thunder posted a :20.022 clocking over the 400 yards, into an 8 mph headwind, to post the top mark. Cipriano Vidana had the riding assignment for owner/trainer Raul Galvan.

Also a winner of the Sam Houston Derby in April, Volcoms Thunder's career record stands at (11) 6-1-3 with earnings of $182,043. P.K. Thomas bred the sorrel son of multiple stakes sire Volcom in Texas from the Dean Miracle mare Ill Getcha Good.
