AURORA, CO—MAY 24, 2015—Rock That Wagon prevailed by a nose over Stel Surprise and Midori N Smoke in a blanket finish to the $20,150 Dash For Speed Bonus Challenge Stakes at Arapahoe Park Sunday afternoon. A nose separated the first five horses that hit the wire.
Ridden by jockey Joe Ruiz, Rock That Wagon covered the 330 yards in :17.025 seconds to pickup the winner's share of the purse totaling $12,090. The brown gelding also won the 2014 Dash For Speed Bonus Challenge Stakes a year ago at the Colorado racetrack.
Hipolito Michel-Valverde saddled the 7-year-old Pyc Paint Your Wagon gelding to his ninth win for owner Pedro and Lila Andazola. Bred in Texas by Bob and Jerry Gaston, from the First Down Dash mare First Tea Rose, Rock That Wagon's record stands at (30) 9-4-3 with earnings of $123,411.
Midori N Smoke is a graded stakes winning Special Leader Colorado-bred racing for owner/breeder Margo Schares and trainer John D. Hammes. Ridden by Vince Guerra, the bay 4-year-old picked up $2,015 to boost her career mark to $77,350. Bumped at the start, the five-time winner is out of Smokin Corona, by Corona Cartel.
Completing the Dash For Speed Bonus Challenge field were U C Me Streakin, Cruzin, Im Beau Brown, Himalaya Jess, Mis Carver, Beach City Beauty and Oh No U Didnt.
