HOUSTON, TX—APRIL 21, 2015—A total of 76 2-year-olds, including recent maiden special weight winner This Bug Can Dash, has been entered in Friday’s John Deere Texas Juvenile Challenge (G3) trials at Sam Houston Race Park.
The 10 fastest qualifiers from these 350-yard trials will meet in the May 16, $35,000-added final. The winner of the final will earn a berth in the $150,000 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2) later this fall.
This Bug Can Dash is a homebred daughter of Down N Dash racing for Pete A. Scarmardo and trained by Brian Stroud. The filly made her debut with a convincing 1 1/4-length victory in a 300-yard, $6,600 maiden special weight dash for Texas-breds on April 10.
Luis Ramirez has been named to ride This Bug Can Dash from post 3 in the eighth of 10 heats.
Ricardo A. Morales’ Dashin Dictatorial, a homebred gelding by Dictatorial trained by Angel Sanchez, drew the rail post in the fourth trial. Dashin Dictorial is coming off of a neck victory as the even-money favorite in his second out, a 250-yard, $6,600 maiden special weight sprint at Sam Houston Race Park on March 28.
