A Real Steal 613 Breaks Maiden, Sets Top Time In Sun Downs Maiden Challenge Trials

KENNEWICK, WA— APRIL 18, 2015—Making just his fourth career start, and first this season, A Real Steal 613 defeated Quematierras by a neck Saturday afternoon, setting the fastest qualifying time for the Sun Downs Maiden Challenge at Sun Downs.

The 10 fastest, Challenge enrolled 3-year-olds and up, who competed in the three trials races on Saturday will return to Pacific Northwest racetrack on Sunday, May 2 and vie for the winner's share of a $10,000-added purse over 350 yards.

Owned-and-trained by Juan Leon, A Real Steal 613 dueled late to get up over Quematierras to set the top qualifying time of :17.930 seconds, a 93 speed index. The 3-year-old gelding ridden by jockey Kassie Guglielmino was making his first start outside of Oregon. Last season he finished third once in three starts.

Ramiro Gonzalez bred the Sixthirteen (TB) gelding in Oregon from the Fastnfierce mare La Dvana.

Quematierras held on for the second fastest time of :17.970 seconds, a 92 speed index. Robert Burney rode the Fastnfierce gelding for owner Jose Armenta and trainer Hector Magallanes. Rogelio Gonzalez bred Quematierras in Oregon from the Cisco Road (TB) mare Street Gal (TB).
