PHOENIX, AZ—APRIL 8, 2015—Specials Gold, a graded stakes winning Voghts Gold gelding racing for Gilberto Jasso, will make his 6-year-old debut in Sunday’s 440-yard Bank of America Turf Paradise Championship Challenge (G3) trials.
The trials have drawn 17 entries. The 10 fastest qualifiers from the two trials will meet in the $60,000-added final on April 26; the winner will earn a berth in the $350,000 Bank of America Challenge Championship (G1) at Lone Star Park in November.
Trained by Heraclio Botello, Specials Gold is coming off of a 2014 campaign in which he earned $54,496 from five starts, and his three wins included a three-quarter length victory in the October 4, $68,220 Bank of America Turf Paradise Championship Challenge. Alejandro Luna will ride the gelding from post 2 in the first heat.
Ralph and Carolyn Fales’ Heat Warning, a two-time stakes winner during the current Turf Paradise meet, drew the rail post in the second trial. Conditioned by Matt Fales, the homebred 4-year-old stallion by A Regal Choice will be making his first start since December 28, when he ran second, a neck behind winner Eye Got It Going On, in the 440-yard, $15,000 Turf Paradise Quarter Horse Championship.
J. Martin Bourdieu will ride Heat Warning on Sunday.
