Sensational Dash Uses New Challenge Payment Rule

Q-RACING JOURNAL—MARCH 2, 2015— Sensational Dash has become the first horse to take advantage of a new Bank of America Racing Challenge program rule.

The rule, implemented this year, says that in addition to the existing $2,500 late payment option (that is due at time of sustaining payment), there is a new option to pay a $5,000 late payment at the time of entry for trials, regardless of whether trials are actually conducted.

Sensational Dash is owned by Gerardo Acosta of El Paso, Texas, and was paid into the Red Cell Sunland Distance Challenge (G3). The $55,000-added race’s trial date is March 6, and the final is scheduled for March 28.

Sensational Dash is a 7-year-old mare by Streak And Dash, and has won or placed in 16 of 26 starts and earned $128,585. She most recently won an 870-yard $20,000 claimer at Sunland on February 6.

The Bank of America Racing Challenge is a program to help horsemen and their horses have more opportunities and earn more money. In 2014, the program hosted 62 regional races, 36 Bonus Challenge races and 16 Maiden Challenge races that paid out more than $4,667,187.

The enrollment-based program is based on the age of the horse and good for its lifetime. Horses enrolled as weanlings are $300, while older horses have a $20,000 enrollment fee. Currently, the fee for yearlings is $600 and 2-year-olds is $8,000, but now horses that turn 2 on January 1 will have until March 15 to pay a $2,500 enrollment.
