FLOWER MOUND, TX—JANUARY 17, 2022—Rojas Racing Stables LLC's Blood Money, a multiple graded stakes winner of over $1.2 million, died while undergoing colic surgery today, his breeder Spring Hill Farms confirmed today.
A 2-year-old son of leading sire Apollitical Blood last raced on December 18th at Evangeline Downs, winning the $1,000,000 LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity(RG1).
The leading contender for champion 2-year-old colt honors last year, he won seven of eight starts including the Lee Berwick Futurity(RG1), Laddie Futurity(RG2) and was second in by a nose in the LQHBA Sale Futurity(RG1). He earned $1,123,142.
Bred by Spring Hill Farms LLC, Blood Money was a $17,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale repurchase. His dam, Zoom To The Money, was a multiple stakes winning daughter of Shazoom who won the Grade 2 Mile High Futurity, Dash For Speed Stakes and Rocky Mountain Championship.
His third dam was Champion 3-Year-old filly See Me Gone ($638,209), winner of the All American Derby(B1), Rainbow Derby(G1) and Sunland Fall Futurity(G2).
Rosendo Valdez, Jr. trained Blood Money and he was ridden by last year's #2 leading money earning jockey Everardo Rodriguez.
