OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—JANUARY 15, 2021—Robert Clayton Williams Jr, known to most as ‘Bob’, 86, of Oklahoma City, OK went to be with the Lord on January 12th, 2021.

Bob was born in Marlow Oklahoma on December 8th, 1934 to Robert C. Williams Sr. and Margaret Williams. At the age of 12, Bob moved to Oklahoma City which would be his home for more than seventy years. In 1952 Bob graduated from Capitol Hill High School.

Upon graduating, he went to work at Oklahoma National Stockyards buying and selling cattle for different cattle companies. In 1953 Bob met Peggy Jean Barnett at Agnew Baptist Church. Peggy was a few years older than Bob but in her mind that wasn’t something he needed to know at the moment.

Their age wasn’t the only difference. She was a democrat and he a republican but not even that could stop what God had in store for the young couple. They were wed in 1956, the same year as her younger sister Robbie and her husband Ab. The four ran around together for decades living life and making memories. The couple would go on to live out 66 years of marriage together. In June of 1957, Bob and Peggy welcomed their first child, Kimberley Williams.

In 1957 Bob was drafted to the Army. In 1958 Bob was given orders to try out for the Honor Guard. He was the only one in his unit chosen to compete and he finished #1 in his class. In 1959 Bob was discharged from the Army. Bob and Peggy had two more children, Kelly Williams in 1961, and Robert Williams IV in 1962. He went on to have a handful of other jobs, including operating and owning a successful trucking company.

In the 1970’s Bob took an interest in raising and training racing quarter horses. The family’s first race horse spurred the interest that would never go away. Miss Hay Day won 17 straight races as a 3 year old and her blood line produced winners for four generations. In 1974 Mr. Hay Bug qualified for the All American Futurity and was billed as “the super horse” by multiple tracks and publications. The family had several great horses and Bob took notice.

In 1980 he went to work as the assistant trainer for Jack Brooks who was the leading Quarter Horse trainer in the nation. He worked with Jack for sixteen years. During this time he went to the winner’s circle with Jack Brooks for the coveted All American Futurity six times. Mr. Master Bug, Merganser, Dash Thru Traffic, Mr. Trucka Jet, Strawberry Silk and Falling In Love Again were the all-star lineup that took them there. In 1996 Bob went on to train for himself. Bob became a very well-known and successful horseman in the industry. He worked with many great horses during his time with Jack and on his own. Bob Williams of Bob Williams Racing is one of the most well-known and respected horseman in the quarter horse industry.

Bob achieved many accomplishments in his life but perhaps one of the things he took the most pride in was the fact that all eight of his grandchildren have a college degree. He would proudly make this known to anyone who would listen, always sure to give Peggy the credit. A statement always accompanied by his trademark smile.

Bob is preceded in death by his father, Robert C Williams Sr, his mother, Margaret Williams, his daughter, Kimberly Voyels, and his great grandson, Josiah Tripp Cauthen.
