BH Lisas Boy Rises to #2 in the AQHA Racing National Poll for Older Horses

AMERICAN QUARTER HORSE ASSOCIATION—AUGUST 16, 2018—In one of the most memorable Bank of America Racing Challenge stakes in the program’s history, BH Lisas Boy closed with a tremendous rush to catch champion Hold Air Hostage at the wire in Saturday’s Bank of America Los Alamitos Championship Challenge (G3) at Los Alamitos.

The result raised the Bill Hoburg-bred, -owned and -trained runner from No. 3 to No. 2 in the latest AQHA Racing National Poll for older horses. Hold Air Hostage, who was making his Southern California debut, slipped to No. 3 in a flip of the previous week’s rankings.

A gelded son of Mighty Invictus, BH Lisas Boy has already made six starts this year, with victories in three races, including the Brad McKinzie Winter Championship (G1), and second-place efforts in the Vessels Maturity (G1) and Moonist Handicap. Jessies First Down, the two-time reigning world champion who is undefeated in two starts this year, held the top spot for the 16th straight week, but is only two voting points ahead of BH Lisas Boy.

The rest of the older-horse poll was unchanged, as was the entire 2-year-old poll with Rainbow Futurity (G1) winner MM Fourinthemorning again taking the top position. Things are likely to change this coming week with the eyes of the American Quarter Horse racing world focused on Ruidoso Downs in the mountains of New Mexico from Friday through Sunday, with trials set for the All American Futurity (G1) and All American Derby (G1). Among the 2-year-olds set to run Friday and Saturday are five ranked horses: No. 1 MM Fourinthemorning, No. 3 Blue Corazon, No. 4 Suze Returns, No. 7 Lynnder 16 and No. 9 Zee James. The 32 trials will feature 311 juveniles aiming for a spot in the $3-million final on Labor Day.

Sunday’s All American Derby trials include the two highest-ranked 3-year-olds in the poll: No. 5-ranked Jess Move You and No. 7-ranked KVN Corona.
