Wrangler Q-Racing Ace Jennifer Hancock To Visit The Downs This Weekend

ALBUQUERQUE, NM—SEPTEMBER 19, 2017—Jennifer Hancock, a member of the Wrangler Q-Racing Ace team of handicappers, will visit Albuquerque Downs on Sunday.

Hancock will be distributing complimentary handicapping materials, including a tip sheet for the day, and she will be available to answer questions about handicapping. A native of Houston, Texas, she has served as media relations coordinator and press box manager at Sam Houston Race Park, where her duties included writing media releases and assisting with the track’s fan education activities.

Hancock joined the American Quarter Horse Association in 2001, where she served as editor of The American Quarter Horse Racing Journal, and later as director of marketing.

Albuquerque Downs will be distributing a track-record $1,507,730 in purses this weekend, and the track will offer six stakes races, five for Quarter Horses and one for Thoroughbreds. Sunday’s 11-race closing-day program will feature four stakes, including the 440-yard, $250,000 Albuquerque Fall Quarter Horse Championship, which has drawn a field of seven, headed by reigning AQHA world champion Jessies First Down.

NOTES FROM THE DOWNS: The 11-day New Mexico State Fair portion of the meet has ended, so Albuquerque Downs will return to its regular schedule starting with a nine-race program on Wednesday, beginning at 6:05 p.m. (MDT). Racing will also be conducted on Friday and Saturday nights (first post both nights, 6:05), and closing day Sunday, starting at 1:30.

The final race of The Downs’ 58-day season, the 1-13/16-mile, $20,000-added Con Jackson Claiming Handicap on Sunday, has drawn 10 Thoroughbreds, led by 119-pound highweight It’ll Be Fine. Contested at 14 1/2 furlongs, the Con Jackson is New Mexico’s longest horse race.
