New Mexico Racing Commission Approves 2018 Race Dates

ALBUQUERQUE, NM—JUNE 16, 2017—The New Mexico Racing Commission on Thursday approved 2018 race dates for the state’s five tracks.

The 2018 calendar will get underway with a 72-day meet at Sunland Park from December 15, 2017-April 17, 2018. SunRay Park in Farmington will conduct a 33-day season from April 21-June 18, followed by a 47-day season at Ruidoso Downs from May 25-September 3.

Albuquerque Downs’ 38-date season will run from June 29-September 1 and will be followed by a 17-date New Mexico State Fair meet conducted at Albuquerque Downs from September 2-23. Zia Park in Hobbs will conduct a 56-day season from September 8-December 11.

All New Mexico tracks will conduct mixed meets for Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses. SunRay Park will run nine weeks, offering three-day weeks during its opening weekend and last two weekends, while Ruidoso Downs will run four-day weeks during its opening weekend, which includes the Memorial Day holiday, and its closing weekend, which includes the Labor Day holiday.

During the rest of the Ruidoso meet, the track will run three days a week on a Friday-through-Sunday schedule.
