Los Alamitos Cancels Friday’s Racing Program Due To Rain, Los Alamitos Winter Championship Moved To

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—FEBRUARY 11, 2017—Los Alamitos Race Course has cancelled its 8-race evening program Friday, February 17 due to a heavy storm that is predicted to hit Southern California at around midnight. Rain and high winds are expected both day and night on Friday. Already this season, areas in Orange County, where Los Alamitos Race Course resides, have experienced more than 18 inches of rain.

Los Alamitos will remain open for simulcasting on Friday featuring racing from Golden Gate Fields, east coast Thoroughbred tracks, harness racing from Cal Expo in Sacramento and more. Los Alamitos will offer free general admission and parking on Friday. The Vessels Club will be closed.

Friday’s racing program was scheduled to include the running of the Grade 1, $150,900 Los Alamitos Winter Championship for older horses. The Winter Championship will now be run on Sunday night as part of a 10-race program that will also feature the running of the $106,750 Los Alamitos Maiden Stakes. The Winter Championship is the 10th race on the card, while the Maiden Stakes is scheduled as the fourth race. First post time on Sunday is 5 p.m. (Pacific).

Los Alamitos will also host live racing on Saturday night headed by the Denim N Diamonds Handicap. Grade 1 winner Little Talks and multiple stakes winner Nymph will face off in the 350-yard Denim N Diamonds. First post on Saturday is 6 p.m. (Pacific). For more info, please call 714-820-2800.
