Los Alamitos Race Course Cancels Sunday Racing Due To Heavy Rain

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—JANUARY 22, 2017—Los Alamitos Race Course cancelled live racing on Sunday, January 22 following a heavy storm that soaked the Southland for the entire day. Several streets in the Orange County area experienced heavy flooding. The heavy rain is expected to continue to drench the area for most of Sunday night.

Sunday’s program was set to feature two trials to the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Winter Championship. The trials will now be contested when racing resumes on Friday, January 27. The trials are scheduled to feature Champion of Champions winner Zoomin For Spuds, multiple Grade 1 winners He Looks Hot and Far Niente and 14 other top older horses. The Winter Championship final will be held on Sunday, February 12.

This is the first time that Los Alamitos has cancelled live racing due to rain since the weekend of February 28 thru March 2 of 2014. Live racing here was also cancelled for one night when a torrential downpour walloped the Los Angeles and Orange County on December 19, 2010. Earlier this morning, Santa Anita Park also cancelled its live Sunday racing program due to the rain.

Los Alamitos will be dark on Sunday evening with harness simulcasting and Australia simulcasting also cancelled. Los Alamitos will be open for daytime simulcasting on Monday, January 23 at 10 a.m. For more information, please call 714-820-2690.
