Hair Testing Presentation Set For AQHA Racing Conference October 28

AMERICAN QUARTER HORSE ASSOCIATION—OCTOBER 21, 2016—The AQHA Racing Conference, which is held during the week leading up to the Bank of America Racing Challenge Championships, will feature multiple guest speakers, including a presentation on horse-hair-testing that AQHA members can attend at 9 a.m. on October 28 in the Finish Line Room at Los Alamitos Race Course in Cypress, California.

The AQHA Racing Conference welcomes Dr. Scott Stanley, the head of the K.L. Maddy Equine Analytical Lab at the University of California-Davis. Dr. Stanley will be discussing the use of hair testing for the presence of illegal drugs and answering questions from attendees.

“Anticipating that this hair testing will be utilized with increased regularity in the different racing jurisdictions, we wanted to offer our membership clarification on the subject and put to rest some confusion,” said Janet VanBebber, AQHA chief racing officer.

Hair testing is a relatively new testing procedure used in horse racing, and AQHA is offering this opportunity for horsemen, both owners and trainers alike, to become better informed about the hair-testing process.

AQHA encourages the attendees of this year’s Challenge Championships to attend the AQHA Racing Conference to learn from Dr. Stanley and additional speakers on October 28.
