Q-RACING JOURNAL—SEPTEMBER 19, 2016— Veteran jockey J.R. Valenzuela reached the 1,000 win milestone on September 17 at Zia Park, riding Jessy Wave Carver to victory in the 10th race on the card.

Jessy Wave Carver, a 4-year-old gelding by Wave Carver and out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Kerrys Lil Jess, is owned by Julio Islas and trained by Salvador Soto.

Valenzuela began his riding career in 1975. Since then, he has ridden more than 8,500 starters who have earned more than $8.3 million.

Among the horses he has booted home are champion Six To Five, track record-setter Duke Of Houston, Superior Race Horses Its Called Splash, Rattle D Snap and Dash For Popa, and many more.

He joins a group of only 83 other jockeys in the history of American Quarter Horse racing to achieve the four-figure win milestone.
