Riders Named On Kearl Horses for All American Derby

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—AUGUST 27, 2016—Judd Kearl, currently the leading Quarter Horse trainer in the nation who qualified four horses to the $2.4 million All American Derby(G1) August 21st at Ruidoso Downs, announced riders for his four mounts in the Sunday, September 4th final.

Jockey Jose Alvarez will stay aboard fastest qualifier Volcom Bay. The jockey rode the daughter Volcom to the top qualifying time of :21.189 seconds after a 2½-length victory in the 12th of 13 trials.

Second in the Grade 1 Ruidoso Derby in June, Volcom Bay was purchased by her owners Bennie and Terri Jeter for $43,000 at the 2014 Heritage Place September Yearling Sale. O.K.

Thomas bred the filly in Oklahoma, from the Chicks Beduino mare Miss Lethal. She has compiled a (12) 4-2-2 record and earned $18,936.

Regular rider Esgar Ramirez will stay aboard second fastest qualifier Ec Jet One for owner/breed Enrique Carrion and Kearl. The son of second crop sire The Louisiana Cartel finished with the second fastest All American Derby trial clocking of :21.274 seconds after getting bumped on both sides in the 7th trial.

Francisco Calderon will take over riding duties from Alvarez on the Carters Cartel filly First Fancy Racy.

Making her first start since finishing second in the Grade 1 Texas Classic Futurity at Lone Star Park last November, First Fancy Racy rolled a 2 ¾ length win in the fourth trial to post the fifth fastest time of :21.312 seconds.

Owner Aldai Transport purchased First Fancy Racy from her breeder, Sunflower Supply Co., for $37,000 at the September 2014 Heritage Place Yearling Sale. She is out of the First Down Dash mare First Down Racy and has earned $260,123.

A Texas-bred, from the Mr Jess Perry mare Pretty Girl Perry, Ec Jet One is undefeated in four starts this season and has won seven of nine career starts and earned $356,049.

Joe Badilla, Jr. has been tapper to ride Breave Heart Won in the All American Derby(G1) final at Ruidoso Downs.

Champion jockey Joe Badilla, Jr. will takeover for Alvarez on sixth fastest qualifier Brave Heart Won. Kearl trains the son of leading sire Apollitical Jess for owners Dwayne Saucier and Michael Taylor.

An Oklahoma-bred, from the Fols Gold mare Fols Zookie Gold, Brave Heart Won is a RG3-placed earner of $88,947. Bred by Luis Miguel and Albores Gleason, Brave Heart Won defeated fellow qualifier Jess Envision by half-a-length in the 10th trial to post a :21.333 clocking.
