Race For Leading Trainer Heats Up Into May At Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 1, 2016—The 2016 race for leading trainer heads into the homestretch at Remington Park with 20 dates left in the season. Defending leading trainer Clint Crawford is battling mainstay Eddie Willis for the crown, currently sharing the lead after 30 race dates of the 50-date season completed.

The two conditioners came into Sunday afternoon tied at the top of the standings with 22 wins apiece. Crawford edged in front with a score in the second race as Topless Prospect won to break her maiden status for owner Hershel Cole of Sallisaw, Okla. The advantage for Crawford held for the next six races before Willis could answer.

JS Abel Dasher brought the Willis barn even with Crawford, taking an allowance event in race nine for owners James Sills and Abel Flores of Cedar Hill, Texas. The victory put Willis back into a tie with Crawford and each will head to next week’s racing at Remington Park with 23 wins.

Eddie Willis was Remington Park's leading trainer 2010 thru 2014.
Crawford won a share of the training crown in 2015, giving him his first-ever title at Remington Park. His co-championship with Jeff Dean (both had 22 wins) wrested the conditioning trophy from Eddie Willis, who had won every training title at Remington Park since 2010.

Remington Park’s 2016 season continues Thursday thru Sunday, May 5-8. The first race is at 6pm on Thursdayand Friday. The Kentucky Derby simulcast takes place on Saturday, May 7 with special Remington Park racing underway at 3:45pm. The Kentucky Derby simulcast will be at 5:30pm. Sunday afternoon racing on Mothers’ Day, May 8, starts at 1:30pm.

Open daily for casino gaming and simulcast racing, Remington Park features the Bricktown Brewery on the casino floor. Admission, general parking and valet parking are always free at Remington Park, home of the historic $414,000 Oklahoma Futurity. The 75th running of the oldest futurity in Quarter Horse racing takes place on Saturday, March 26, 2016.
