NEW ORLEANS, LA—AUGUST 22, 2015— Veteran-rider Orlando Baldillez broke his shoulder in three to four places as a result of a spill during a 870 yard allowance event at the Fair Grounds in New Orleans, Louisiana today (Aug. 22).

Baldillez was aboard Anthony Arey trained Cosmo Corona in the stretch of the 870 yard contest when Jrs Special Feature suffered a break down in mid-stretch, and thus caused both Cosmo Corona and James Vance trained Dwaynes First Perry to tumble over the fallen horse and rider. Dwaynes First Perry was ridden by Rene Guiterrez.

Both Gutierrez and Rodriguez were given a medical examination, but did not require a visit to the hospital, according to sources at the Fair Grounds. Baldillez posted a message on Facebook about the result of his accident.

“Thanks to my Lord Jesus for keeping me safe enough to walk off the racetrack today,” blogged Baldillez. “I did however break my shoulder in three to four pieces, but there are not other injuries. That’s a blessing in itself.”
