MORENO VALLEY, CA—AUGUST 2, 2015—The Southern California ranch that has produced some of the most talented runners in the Quarter Horse racing industry is now up for sale, according to co-owner Dawn List.

“My sister, mother and I have decided that we are moving away from the stresses that come from owning and operating a ranch in Southern California,” said Dawn List. “Every bit of money we have been making from the yearling sales and racing part of the business has been going back into the ranch, and now we are just looking for a way to becoming more profitable.”

In June of 1989, the late Jens L. List, Jr. purchased 153 acres in Moreno Valley, California to establish Double Bar S Ranch. Jens passed away in November of 1996, and his spouse, Sharon, and two daughters, Rhonda and Dawn, continued the operation of the ranch after his passing. The ranch has primarily been utilized for the racing business, including breeding, training, and lay ups in Southern California. Double Bar S is equipped with a state-of-the-art training pool, as well as a 5/8 mile training track.

“The bottom line is that it is almost impossible to run a small business in the state of California, and we felt it was just time for a change,” said Dawn List.

“We have no plans of leaving the sport, despite the rumors that have been going around. We have moved our horses to the ranches of Paul Jones, Rick and Mindy Overly, and our last shipment of horses have left from Oklahoma to Lazy E Ranch this morning. It has been nearly 30 years since the ranch was vacant of horse, and that has been very hard to witness. We are not leaving the sport that we love; we are just getting away from all the stresses of operating this ranch,” she added.
