Record $3 Million All American Futurity Heads Historic Ruidoso Stakes Program

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—APRIL 14, 2015—The largest purse for any two-year-old race in the world — the $3 million, Grade 1 All American Futurity for quarter horses — heads the impressive stakes lineup this summer at Ruidoso Downs.

The 440-yard All American Futurity also offers the largest purse in quarter horse racing history. It also has the largest winner’s share, $1.5 million, in quarter horse racing history.

The All American Juvenile’s purse has been raised to a record $200,000 from $100,000 last year.

The season starts on May 22 with the first of two days of trials to the Grade 1, $750,000 Ruidoso Futurity and concludes on Labor Day with the All American Futurity.

The seven Grade 1 races during the summer are projected to pay out nearly $9 million.

The first of the Grade 1 races will be held on June 6-7. The $800,000 (est.) Ruidoso Derby is set for Saturday, June 6 while the $750,000 Ruidoso Futurity will be on the following day. The $100,000 Mr Jess Perry is on Saturday.

In July, the weekend of July 18-19 will be Rainbow weekend. The $900,000 (est.) Rainbow Derby is on Saturday July 18 while the $1 million Rainbow Futurity follows on Sunday afternoon. The $100,000 Corona Cartel will be run on Saturday.

Labor Day weekend is stocked with the Grade 1 $200,000 All American Gold Cup, the Grade 1, $2.3 million (est.) All American Derby and then the $3 million All American Futurity on successive days. Joining the All American Gold Cup on Saturday, September 5 is the $20,000 Bill Reed Stakes. On Sunday’s All American Derby day undercard is the $100,000 First Down Dash and the $15,000 Ruidoso Thoroughbred Sprint Claiming Stakes.

Labor Day will be filled with stakes action, capped by the $3 million All American Futurity. Also on the remarkable card is the $200,000 All American Juvenile, $100,000 Ruidoso Thoroughbred Championship, the $30,000 Tribute To The Troops Quarter Horse Claiming Race, the $15,000 Red, White and Blue Thoroughbred Claiming Stakes and the $15,000 Labor Day Thoroughbred Claiming Stakes.

New Mexico-breds make the Zia Festival on July 25-26 is always one of the most popular weekends of the summer with 13 stakes races held over the two days. The largest purse will be the estimated $400,000 Zia Futurity for quarter horses. The top thoroughbred stakes will each offer an estimated $175,000 purse: the Rio Grande Senorita Futurity and the Rio Grand Senor Futurity.
