OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—FEBRUARY 26, 2015—The 2015 American Quarter Horse & Mixed-breed Season begins Friday, March 6. The 12-race card will begin at 6pm and features numerous trial races.

A total of seven trials will be run to determine finalists for the $125,000 (estimated) Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity. The seven trials will be conducted as the second thru eighth races on Opening Night, all for 2-year-olds going 300 yards.

A pair of trials for 3-year-olds will be run in races nine and 10 for the $47,000 (estimated) Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Derby, at 350 yards. Competing in the second derby trial in race 10 is Texas Silk, the Champion Paint racer from the 2014 season.

A winner of four straight races to wrap his 2-year-old campaign at Remington Park, Texas Silk won both the American Paint Classic Futurity in April and the Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity in May, both Grade 1 events. Owned by Charles Leggett of Muskogee, Okla. and trained by Dee Keener, Texas Silk has been ridden in all of his victories by Berkley Packer, who is up again on Opening Night.

The Remington Park season always includes star power and the 2015 edition will feature plenty with three jockeys who have been voted the American Quarter Horse Association Champion. The current two-time champion Cody Jensen and 10-time champion G.R. Carter are back for their usual run in Oklahoma City. Joining that duo and others in the jockey colony will be four-time champion Joe Badilla who returned to the saddle from retirement late last year. This will be Badilla’s first full season at Remington Park.

Carter, a native of Pawhuska, Okla. and resident of Edmond, Okla., will bid for his 19th Remington Park seasonal title.

The Opening Night program will feature new 50-cent minimum wagers on three offerings. Offered on a regular basis for the first time in Remington Park history, the Trifecta, Pick 3 and Primetime Pick 4 will all carry a 50-cent minimum.

The 50-cent trifecta will be available for every Remington Park race. The 50-cent Pick 3s will be offered starting with the third race on each program. The 50-cent Primetime Pick 4 takes place over the final four races at the end of the program.

Post times for the Opening Weekend of the season are 6pm on Friday, March 6; 5pm on Saturday, March 7; and 1:30pm on Sunday, March 8.

Open daily at 10:30am for casino gaming and simulcast racing, Remington Park features the Bricktown Brewery on the casino floor. Admission, general parking and valet parking are always free at Remington Park, home of the historic 74th Oklahoma Futurity on Saturday, March 21.
