Four Iowa-Bred Stakes Set for Saturday at Prairie Meadows

Four Iowa-bred Quarter Horse stakes will highlight Saturday's 13-race closing-day program at Prairie Meadows. Post time for the track's first race is set for 4 p.m. (CDT).

Ten state-bred 2-year-olds are entered back in Saturday's 350-yard, $129,020 Jim Bader Futurity (R). Richard L. Tobin's Lil Racy Blue, an undefeated son of Racy Casanova and the third-fastest qualifier from three trials run on September 10, drew post 4 and will be ridden by Stormy Smith for trainer Tony Jones. The gelding has earned $58,457 from four races, and his four wins include a 1 3/4-length victory in the 350-yard, $77,000 Iowa Stallion Futurity (R) on August 21.

Other contenders include Dashin Davey Crocket, a stakes-winning son of Lil Kool Wagon trained by Manuel Campos for owner James J. Leeper. The gelding has banked $50,078 from four outs, and his two wins include a three-quarter length victory in the 330-yard, $74,000 Hawkeye Futurity (R) for Iowa-bred juveniles on July 9.

Dashin Davey Crocket drew post 5 and will be ridden by Jose Beltran.

Also on Saturday, Sunflower Stables LLC's SFS Alice Strikes heads a field of 10 Iowa-bred sophomores entered in the 400-yard, $112,560 Polk County Derby (R).

A homebred Apollitical Jess filly trained by Stacy Charette-Hill, SFS Alice Strikes has won two of her four starts at Prairie Meadows this season, including the 350-yard, $62,000 Cyclone Derby (R) for state-bred 3-year-olds on July 9. The filly ended her juvenile season with a victory at odds of 13-1 in the 350-yard, $153,000 Jim Bader Futurity (R).

SFS Alice Strikes drew post 4 and will be ridden by Cristian Esqueda.

Saturday's 400-yard, $50,000 Terrace Hill Stakes (R) drew a field of eight Iowa-bred sprinters, headed by Iris Royal Jess.

Trained by Alex Wessels for owner B/B Wessels LLC, Iris Royal Jess is coming off of a head victory in the 350-yard, $25,000 Cy-Hawk Stakes (R) for state-bred runners on August 6. The 7-year-old Captain Courage gelding has won 12 of 19 races and has earned $251,644 -- all at Prairie Meadows -- and he ended his 2021 campaign with a three-quarter length victory in the Terrace Hill Stakes.

Iris Royal Jess drew post 5 and will be ridden by Cristian Esqueda.

A field of eight state-bred distaffers are entered in Saturday's 350-yard, $50,000 Future of Iowa Stakes (R).

TRS Amazing Gracie, a 3-year-old Just Amazing Jess filly racing for Clarinda Rohweder, will be seeking her first stakes win against aged company. Trained by Ed Hardy, TRS Amazing Gracie will be shortening in distance off of her clear 1 3/4-length victory in the 400-yard, $54,000 Iowa Stallion Derby (R) on August 20.

TRS Amazing Gracie drew post 3 and will be ridden by Angel O. Ramirez.
