Oh Jerry, Dannybob Headline 1,000 Yard Championships On Sunday

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—JUNE 24, 2022—After an exciting six-month long series of races around the turn, William Hedrick’s homebred Oh Jerry and Jesus Uranga’s CADreamer will both look to defend their titles when they headline strong casts in their respective 1,000-yard championships to be contested on Sunday night at Los Alamitos.

Eight races are on tap for the second part of the doubleheader at the Orange County oval with first post set for 7 p.m.

To be ridden by Francisco Orduña Rojas for trainer Adriana Vallejo, Oh Jerry has been a juggernaut at this distance at Cypress oval. Remarkably, the 7-year-old gelding by Oh Tanner has won 11 of his 14 starts at this distance dating back to November of 2020. His richest victory during this span came seven months ago when he won the inaugural $50,000 championship.

Oh Jerry has remained a dominant player at this distance, winning three of his four starts since scoring in that lucrative final. His main rivals in the 1,000-Yard Summer Championship figure to be Uranga’s Sigur Ros, who returns to Los Alamitos after winning a $75,000 stakes race at Sun Ray Park, and Bill and Susan Tomasic’s Half Right, who is three for three here at the 1,000-yard distance for trainer Steve Knapp.

Sigur Ros finished second to Oh Jerry on April 9, while Half Right will be facing the reigning king of this division for the very first time. Jeffrey Sengara’s King of Speed and Battle Born Racing’s Project Leader both figure to provide the early speed and both enter having won each of their last two starts. Cunningham Stables’ Baby Gronk, who ran in last year’s $50,000 final, and E. &J. Quintero and J. Diaz’s Whisky My God, who has three wins at this distance this year, round out the field.

In the $30,000 Summer Championship for fillies and mares, CADreamer, the big winner in this race last year, comes in razor-sharp form after defeating Don and Jack Hibard’s Dannybob on May 21.

It was Dannybob who began the year with three impressive wins at this distance, but she has lost her last starts. It’s the opposite for Pistachio Princess, as the Vronsky filly has won her two local starts convincingly and will now face the likes of CADreamer and Dannybob for the first time. Chollima, Coruscation and Coalinga Hills will also race.
