GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—NOVEMBER 2, 2020—Grade 1 winner Shott Gun and All American Futurity (G1) runner-up Instygator are among the 149 2-year-olds entered in Sunday's Texas Classic Futurity (G1) trials at Lone Star Park.

Post time for the first of 15 400-yard heats is set for 4:35 p.m. (CST).

A homebred son of Valiant Hero racing for Bobby D. Cox, Shott Gun has earned $361,059 from five starts in Oklahoma and New Mexico, and his three wins include a head victory in the 350-yard, $826,000 Heritage Place Futurity (G1) at Remington Park on May 30. The gelding drew post 3 and will be ridden by Rodrigo Vallejo for trainer Heath Taylor in the 14th trial.

Instygator will be making his first start since September 7, when the gelded son of Ivory James ran second, a neck behind winner Whistle Stop Cafe, in the 440-yard, $3-million All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs. A $25,000 purchase at last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale, Instygator has earned $570,041 from five outs for owner Jose E. Guzman.

Instygator drew post 9 and will be ridden by James Flores for trainer Santos Carrizales Jr. in the eighth trial.

Other prominent 2-year-olds entered in Saturday’s trials include Jerry Windham’s Mister Illusion, Priscilla Rodriguez’s Hes Innocent, and Raul E. Galvan’s Cruzin Cartel. Trained by Heath Taylor, Mister Illusion is a homebred son of champion Tempting Dash who has banked $189,743 from three races. Mister Illusion drew post 5 and will be ridden by Rodrigo Vallejo in the third heat.

Hes Innocent will be stretching out in distance off of his neck win in the 350-yard, $371,000 Firecracker Futurity (G2) at Delta Downs on August 15. The Hes Relentless colt drew the rail post and will be ridden by Ricky Ramirez in the 12th trial.

Cruzin Cartel is also trained by Raul Galvan, who purchased the Teller Cartel gelding for $18,000 at last year’s TQHA Yearling Sale. Cruzin Cartel has won two of three starts, including the July 25, $406,000 TQHA Sale Futurity (RG2) at Retama Park, and he has earned $185,520.

Cruzin Cartel drew the rail post and will be ridden by Bryan Candanosa in the 11th heat.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the November 28, $1-million Texas Classic Futurity final.
