Ballast Point Ready To Go Trick Or Treating On Saturday At Los Alamitos

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—OCTOBER 29, 2020—Paul Jones and Thompson Racing LLC’s Ballast Point will look to get all the candy when he leads a talented field of distance runners in the $20,000 Trick Or Treat Handicap at 870 yards on Saturday at Los Alamitos.

Ballast Point has been the best 870-yard Quarter Horse at Los Alamitos for the past two years. He won a division of the Snowbound Superstar Handicap at this distance by four lengths in December of 2019 and earlier this year posted the fastest time at 870 yards since 2006 when scoring in allowance race in :44.20.

His most recent start came at 440 yards when he ran fourth to John Carter Cash in the Bank of America Los Alamitos Championship on August 14. A winner in four out of his last six starts at 870 yards, Ballast Point will face a solid group that his stakes winning stablemate JB Gray Dawn.

Owned by James Burgess, the Heza Fast Dash gelding won the other division of the Snowbound Superstar last year and comes in after a solid runner-up effort around at turn at Fair Meadows.

Four top local Thoroughbreds will join the Quarter Horses in the Trick Or Treat. They will be led by Melster, Schmitt, Schmitt and Stortz’s Project Leader, who defeated a very good group of runners at 1,000 yards on September 26. He led every step of the way, so he figures to have the speed to challenge Ballast Point early on.
