Stars Preparing For Big Upcoming Trials At Los Alamitos

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—MAY 28, 2020—With trials to the Grade 1 Ed Burke Million Futurity set for Sunday, June 7 and trials to the Grade 1 Vessels Maturity scheduled for Sunday, June 14, many of the top 2-year-olds and aged horses have recorded key workout drills in preparations for those important trials.

Here’s a brief look at some of the starts and their morning works:

  • Jess Macho Corona - The 4-year-old multiple Grade 1 stakes runner-up worked 350 yards from the gate in a blistering :17.70 on May 9 before returning with an easy :12.50 turn and work at 220 yards on May 29.

  • Powerful Favorite - The superstar multiple derby winner in 2019 finished third in the Brad McKinzie Los Alamitos Winter Championship in his last outing back in February. The son of Favorite Cartel has since posted a :12.60 drill at 220 yards on May 9 followed by :18.20 work at 350 yards on May 23. Both were turn and works.

  • Yanque - The three-time stakes winner at 550-yards by Favorite Cartel has been sharpening his gate speed with a pair of 350-yard works. He traveled in :18.80 from the gate on May 9 before returning with an :18.50 gate work on May 23.

  • Kissed By An Eagle - The veteran stakes winner has not raced since winning at the allowance level here on October 14,2018. He worked 220 yards handily in :12.50 on April 26 and then had solid 350-yard gate work in :18.0 on May 19.

  • Mister Appolitical - The winner of the Grade 2 Southern California Derby last year, the son of Apollitical Jess had a stamina building turn and work in :18.0 at 350 yards on May 3 before returning with a beautiful 220-yard gate work in :12.20 on May 23.

  • Red Hawk Cartel - Fifth in a trial to the Brad McKinzie Los Alamitos Winter Championship, the Grade 1 stakes runner-up had a 220-yard turn and work in :13.10 on May 14 before posting an :18.20 gate work at 350 yards on May 23.

  • A Solid Reason - The 2-year-old filly posted a maiden victory on May 1 before posting a 220-yard turn and work in :12.30 on May 21.

  • Valantini - The 2-year-old filly sired by Hes Relentless posted a maiden win on April 24 before returning with a :12.40 turn and work at 220 yards on May 20.

  • Jess Lyndes Reason - The freshman filly by Good Reason SA broke her maiden on April 18. She returned with a :18.10 gate work at 350 yards on May 19.

  • Opt Out - Scored a strong maiden win on April 25 before returning with an impressive :12.10 gate drill at 220 yards on May 16.

  • Eagle Empire - The son of One Famous Eagle won on April 10 and has since posted a pair of 220-yard turn and work drills. He went :12.40 on April 29 and :12.50 on May 19.

  • Halley - The Apollitical Jess filly scored a maiden win on April 10 and then posted a gate drill at 220 yards on :13.0 on May 23.
