RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—MAY 27, 2020—A total of 125 New Mexico-bred 2-year-olds, 110 of whom will be making their first official starts, are entered in Friday’s 350-yard Double LL Farms' Mountain Top Futurity (RG2) at Ruidoso Downs.

Post time for the first of 13 heats is set for 12 p.m. (MDT). The last trial is set to run at 4:48 p.m.

Leading Cartel, a son of Big Daddy Cartel owned by Reliance Ranches LLC, drew post 4 in the eighth trial. Trained by Mike Robbins, the gelding will be stretching out in distance off of his three-quarter length victory in a 300-yard, $12,300 maiden-special-weight dash at Remington Park on May 1.

Leading Cartel was a $45,000 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs. The gelding will be ridden by Edgar Martinez.

Trainer Juan M. Gonzalez will send out Abijah, a $15,000 claim by owner Julio Gonzalez at Remington Park on April 23. The gray son of champion First Moonflash won that 330-yard dash by three-quarters of a length as the 9-5 favorite.

Abijah was a $22,000 yearling buy at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale. The gelding drew post 2 and will be ridden by Juan C. Rivas in the 13th heat.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the June 13, $350,000-est. Mountain Top Futurity final.
