RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—AUGUST 30, 2019—Ruidoso Horse Sale Company opened their 2019 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale on Friday to across the board increases and decrease in RNA's compared to the first night a year ago.
A trip of $200,000 or more yearlings set the stage on the opening night.
Juliana Hawn Holt's Hip 89, Famous Shining Star, brought a closing bid of $250,000 from Stan Sigman and Johnny Trotter. The daughter of leading sire One Famous Eagle from the Mr Eye Opener mare Thewayyouwantmetoo, is a three-quarter to sister to champion Rainbow Futurity(G1) winner A Revenant.
From 135 select yearlings offered in the opening session, Ruidoso Horse Sale Company sold 108 for gross receipts of $4,465,700, compared with $3,519,000 paid for 95 yearlings a year ago. Friday's average of $41,349 was up 9% over the opening average of $38,095 in 2018, and the median of $31,500 represented an increase of 37% compared to 2018's opening night of $23,000.

Reliances Ranches LLC paid $210,000 for the second-high seller on Friday, Hip 33 Diva On Fire. < href='default.asp?section=9&farm=58'>Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for Speed LLC consigned the daughter of champion sire Walk Thru Fire from the stakes winning grade-1 placed Mr Jess Perry mare Jess Sass Me. The AQHA Dam of Distinction is the dam of 17 winner, seven black type including Champion Jess Walking Thru, Champion Jess Me Blue, multiple stakes winner Jess Being Valiant, etc.
The third-high seller on Friday, Hip 95, Troubleshooting, was purchased by La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC for $200,000. Burns Ranch, Inc., Agent consigned the Favorite Cartel colt from the first crop of stakes winner Eagle On The Fly, by One Famous Eagle, a sister to stakes winner and All American Futurity(G1) runner-up One Fabulous Eagle.
Reliance Ranches LLC led the opening session buyers with four head grossing $515,000. La Feliz Montana Ranch, LLC paid $310,000 for three yearlings and Rachuan Suarez both 10 head for $304,000.
All-time leading sire First Down Dash was the leading sire of yearlings (by average two or more sold) in the opening session with three head averaging $65,00. One Famous Eagle had 20 head average $62,850 and Mr Jess Perry had four yearlings average $57,750.
One Fabulous Eagle was the leading first-sale-crop sire of yearlings (by average two or more sold) in the opening session with three for $30,333. Champion Jess Good Candy had eight head average $19,938.
