Jet Black Patriot Colt Brings $605,000 In LQHBA Yearling Second Session, Six Head Break Six Figures

KINDER, LA—AUGUST 2, 2019—A colt by multiple stakes sire Jet Black Patriot was purchased by TM Ranch for $605,000 during the second session of the LQHBA Yearling Sale on Friday in Kinder, Louisiana.

Consigned by Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent for Triple M Farms, LLC, the colt (Hip 340) is out of the stakes winning Mr Jess Perry mare Miss Jess Rogue. He is a full or half-sibling to nine black-type including stakes winner and RG1-placed Jet Black Rogue, multiple stakes winner Heza Fast Rogue, Old South Futurity winner Jess A Rogue, etc.

It was a record setting day for the annual sale for state-bred yearlings, with two horses breaking the all-time high selling record for a Louisiana-bred yearling.

Some 312 yearlings have sold in the first two sessions for $5,824,300, a 33% increase over last year's two-day total of $4,365,300. The average of $18,668 was up 30% from 12 months ago where 305 yearlings averaged $14,312. The median was up 4% from $8,200 to $8,500 in 2019.

Friday's session got off to a quick start when Margarito Espinoza paid $550,000 for Hip 195 A Real Train, a colt by first-year sale crop by multiple stakes winner Bp Wagon Train out the Streakin La Jolla mare A Real Tornado. Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent for Stablewood Farm consigned the brown colt.

Friday's third high-seller Hip 172 Veep was purchased by Mickey W. Tiner from the Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent for Bennie and Terry Jetter. The daughter of leading second-crop sire Apollitical Blood is the first foal out of AQHA Racing Champion 3-Year-Old Filly Volcom Bay, by Volcom.

Judd Kearl, Agent is the sale's leading buyer through two sessions with 16 yearlings grossing $668,400. Margarito Espinoza had three purchases for $655,000 and the aforementioned TM Ranch purchased the one yearling for $605,000.

Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent for Triple M Farms, LLC is the leading consignor or agent through two session with the sale topper for $605,000. Robicheaux Ranch, Inc., Agent for Stablewood Farm is second leading consignor through two sessions with four yearlings grossing $581,500 and Spring Hill Farms has 10 yearlings grossing $339,000.

First-crop sale sire BP Wagon Train led sale sires (with two or more sold by average) through two sessions with two yearlings for $278,000. Jet Black Patriot had 17 yearlings average $45,524 and Apollitical Blood has 18 yearlings averaging $43,356. First-crop sale sire Open Me A Corona had seven head average $27,071 through two sessions.

The final session of the 2019 LQHBA Yearling Sale on Saturday will get underway promptly at 10:00 a.m. (CDT) with hips 415 thru 625.

The 43rd annual Louisiana Bred Yearling Sale features 625 yearlings eligible to participate in the nations #1 state bred program. Louisiana-bred horses run for more than $20 million in purse money each year with a guaranteed minimum 148 Quarter Horse race days. All yearlings passing through the ring have been nominated to the $1 million 2020 LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity(RG1).
