PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ—JULY 18, 2019—Fastest qualifier Determined Cowboy is one of 10 juveniles entered back in Saturday’s 350-yard, $10,000-added Granite Mountain Futurity at Arizona Downs.
Trained by Armando Castellanos for owner Valerie M. Velazquez, Determined Cowboy is coming off of a clear 1 3/4-length victory in the first of two trials on June 22. The gelded son of Hes Relentless has earned $6,437 from three outs, all in Arizona.
Determined Cowboy drew post 2 and will be ridden by Martin Osuna. His nine opponents include Juan Clark’s Pollitical Blood, a stakes-winning son of Apollitical Blood trained by Havid Canez. Pollitical Blood has banked $18,644 from three races, and his resume includes a neck victory at odds of 54-1 in the April 28, 350-yard John Deere Turf Paradise Juvenile Challenge Stakes.
Pollitical Blood drew post 3 and will be ridden by Michael Ybarra.

Also on Saturday, seven 3-year-olds are entered in the 350-yard, $10,000-added Desert Classic Derby. Jorge L. Carmona’s Harem Bar Cartel, a son of Five Bar Cartel trained by Danny Montes, drew post 3 and will be ridden by Ruben Lozano. The gelding will be making his local debut off of a half-length victory in a 330-yard, $11,825 non-winners-of-three allowance dash for sophomores at Los Alamitos on May 18.
