Eight Top Stars To Race In Kaweah Bar Handicap On Saturday Night

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—APRIL 24, 2019—Led by 2018 AQHA champion aged stallion Tarzanito and 2019 stakes winners Well Good and Rite Quick, a talented lineup of eight older horses will get together in the 60th running of the Grade 3, $35,000 Kaweah Bar Handicap on Saturday at Los Alamitos, which could see a record milestone reached.

Ed Allred, a member of the AQHA Hall of Fame and the sport's all-time leading owner and breeder, is one victory away from becoming the first owner ever to 100 Quarter Horse stakes wins. The record milestone could come on Saturday night with the Kiddy Up gelding Well Good. Trained by Scott Willoughby, Well Good has won his last three starts and earlier this year he scored in the Cypress Handicap at 350-yards. He posted a solid 550-yard victory in his most recent start.

A1A Racing LLC's Tarzanito will be making his first start since a very troubled start in the Grade 1 Brad McKinzie Los Alamitos Winter Championship. The son of Favorite Cartel stumbled and was bumped at the start of the Winter Championship, leaving him to finish in 10th place. Prior to that effort, Tarzanito was a solid second in his Winter Championship trial. Eddie Garcia will pilot the 2018 Go Man Go Handicap (G1) winner for trainer Yanet Rodriguez.

Owner Martha Wells will have two of her stars racing in the Kaweah Bar in MyFavorite Cartel and Yanque. My Favorite Cartel posted the meet's fastest 300-yard clocking of :15.103 on February 16 when winning by 1 3/4 lengths. Yanque, a Champion of Champions finalist last year, figures to be the late threat in the race based on his past efforts. Both are by Favorite Cartel.

Reliance Ranches LLC's Call Me Cole was one of the top 2-year-olds at Los Alamitos in 2017. The colt by Corona Cartel qualified to both the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity and Grade 1 Golden State Million Futurity after scoring a pair of impressive trial wins. He did not win in four starts in 2018, but did finish sixth in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Super Derby for trainer Mike Robbins.

The quickest horse out of the gate in this race could be Alberto Rosiles' Rite Quick, the winner of the 100-yard The Blink Of An Eye Handicap on February 1. Also by Favorite Cartel, he'll be looking to improve on his out of the money finish in the Moonist Handicap on March 29. The field will be completed by Abigail Kawananakoa's Chance To Fire, who has hit the board in 12 of 16 career starts, and four-time stakes hero CM Boom Shakalaka, the winner of last year's Dillingham Handicap.
