Ten State-Bred Juveniles Entered Back in $393,483 New Mexican Spring Futurity

SUNLAND PARK, NM—-MAY 1, 2019—Ten state-bred 2-year-olds, headed by fastest qualifier Colby James, have been entered back in Sunday’s 300-yard, $393,483 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park.

A sorrel son of Jesse James Jr owned by Rex Wells, Colby James made his debut with a neck victory in the first of 11 Spring Futurity trials on April 13. The gelding is a full brother to graded stakes winner Junior June Bug, and he was a $15,000 yearling purchase at last year’s New Mexico-Bred Sale at Ruidoso Downs.

Colby James drew post 6 and will be ridden by Alan Hernandez for trainer Rodolfo “Rudy” Valles.

The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments and morning-line odds:

Also on Sunday, a dozen state-bred 2-year-olds -- including two also-eligible entries -- have been entered in the 300-yard, $50,000 New Mexican Spring Fling Stakes (R). Bella A. Valenzuela’s Brianna Bordeaux, the 5-2 morning-line favorite and a $17,000 yearling buy, drew post 5 and will be ridden by Felipe Garcia-Luna for trainer Juan Carlos Gonzalez. The sorrel daughter of Jesse James Jr has earned $10,674 from two starts.
