VINTON, LA—APRIL 16, 2019—A full field of 10 sprinters, topped by multiple stakes winner Jess Adalida, has been entered in Friday’s 250-yard, $20,000 Delta Dash Stakes at Delta Downs.

A 4-year-old daughter of champion Jess Louisiana Blue trained by Josue Ponce for owner Ruben Garcia Montemayor, Jess Adalida will be making her first official start since December 15, when the filly ran second, three-quarters of a length behind winner Stone Cold Leader, in the 400-yard, $160,000 EVD Derby at Evangeline Downs. Jess Adalida is coming off of a 3-year-old campaign during which she earned $53,161 from five races and scored a three-length victory in the 400-yard, $39,000 AQHA Lone Star Distaff Challenge in October.

Jess Adalida drew post 9 and will be ridden by J.R. Ramirez.

The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments:

  1. Blue Eyed Cartel (Ricardo Hernandez Jr.)
  2. Gunsmoke B (Antonio Alberto)
  3. Cosmo Lela (Luciano Duenez)
  4. Pieper (Rolando Pina)
  5. Heza Magic Coronas (Everardo Rodriguez)
  6. Hot Prize (Bryan Candanosa)

  9. Jess Adalida (J.R. Ramirez)
  10. Jets Fast Dash (John Hamilton)

Also on Friday, a total of 47 3-year-olds have been entered in five 350-yard Old South Derby trials.

Jorge Haddad’s Anasttasia, a homebred daughter of The Louisiana Cartel trained by Kenneth Roberts Sr., ended her 2-year-old season with a neck victory as the 7-5 favorite in the 350-yard, $151,000 Iowa Double Gold Futurity (R) at Prairie Meadows on September 1. The filly drew post 4 and will be ridden by Luis Vivanco in the first heat.

Dominyun Cartel will be making his first start in Louisiana in the second trial. Trained by Bobby Martinez for owner Brian L. Gunder, the Indiana-bred Dominyun colt outran his 13-1 odds to win last year’s Miss Roxie Little Futurity (R) at Indiana Grand.

Dominyun Cartel drew post 9 and will be ridden by Damian Martinez.

The 10 fastest qualifiers from Friday’s Old South Derby trials will meet in the $25,000-added final on May 10.
