Remington Park Presents Rare Midweek Stakes Doubleheader

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 1, 2019—A rare midweek American Quarter Horse stakes doubleheader will take place at Remington Park on Thursday, as the track presents the 870-yard, $50,000 Pauls Valley Stakes (G2), and the 350-yard, $68,000 Mr Jet Moore Stakes for 3-year-olds and older.

Post time for Thursday’s first race is set for 6 p.m. (CDT). The Pauls Valley (seventh race) is scheduled to go off at 8:36, and estimated post time for the Mr Jet Moore is set for 9:54.

Eight distance specialists have been entered in the Pauls Valley, topped by 2-1 morning-line favorite Jess A Hilbily Bone. A homebred 8-year-old Rock Solid Jess gelding trained by Tammy Johnson for owner Rockin J Running Horses, Jess A Hilbily Bone made his season debut with a half-length victory as the even-money choice in an 870-yard allowance-optional claimer ($20,000) at Remington on March 21.

Last season, Jess A Hilbily Bone earned $51,628 from eight starts, and he scored a come-from-behind, half-length victory in the Pauls Valley. The gelding drew the rail post and will be ridden by Randy Wilson.

The Rockin J Running Horses/Tammy Johnson team will also send out Rock A Billy, a homebred 6-year-old son of Rock Solid Jess who ended his 2018 campaign with a two-length win in the 870-yard, $50,000 King Rick Rack Stakes at Zia Park in December. The gelding drew post 3 and will be ridden by Paul Nieto.

Mr Jet Moore Stakes

A field of eight sprinters has been entered in the Mr Jet Moore, which honors the memory of the sport’s 1972 world champion.

Michael C. Teel’s AJs High, the 5-2 morning-line favorite, will be making his first start since July 4, when the homebred 7-year-old son of Apollitical Jess ran fourth as the even-money choice, 1 1/2 lengths behind winner Kowboy Jim, in the 440-yard, $49,000 Bank of America Canterbury Championship Challenge at Canterbury Park in Minnesota. All told, the sorrel gelding has won 15 of 30 starts, including five of 13 at Remington Park, and he has banked $852,121.

AJs High drew post 3 and will be ridden by Stormy Smith. Other contenders include Jahree Standridge’s Admiral Sting, a homebred 4-year-old Apollitical Jess stallion who opened his 2019 season with a three-quarter length victory in the 250-yard, $68,000 Mighty Deck Three Stakes (R) for Oklahoma-breds on March 8. Admiral Sting drew post 4 and will be ridden by Jimmy Dean Brooks.
