SUNLAND PARK, NM—JANUARY 2, 2019—Woodys Copy Cat and HS Paul Walker are among the 48 New Mexico-bred 3-year-olds entered in Friday’s 400-yard Shue Fly Stakes (RG2) trials at Sunland Park.
A brown daughter of Woodbridge trained by Cynthia Gonzalez for owner Enrique Barrera, Woodys Copy Cat will be making her first start since November 4, when the filly scored a neck victory in the 400-yard, $315,000 New Mexico Cup Futurity (RG2) at Zia Park. Woodys Copy Cat has earned $240,728 from seven races, and her record includes a second-place finish, a neck behind winner Zee James, in the 300-yard, $396,000 New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) at Sunland Park.
Woodys Copy Cat drew post 8 and will be ridden by Manuel Gutierrez in the last of five trials.
HS Paul Walker is coming off of a second-place finish to Woodys Copy Cat in the New Mexico Cup Futurity. Trained by Alvaro Hinojos for owner Fernando Solis Grajeda, the gray Osbaldo gelding has earned $93,960 from nine starts.
HS Paul Walker drew post 8 and will be ridden by Alonso Rivera in the second heat.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the January 26, $200,000-est. Shue Fly Stakes final.
