OPELOUSAS, LA—DECEMBER 12, 2018—Javier Rosique’s Jordan Eagle, a brown son of One Famous Eagle and the fastest qualifier, is one of 10 2-year-olds entered back in Saturday’s 400-yard, $311,470 EVD Futurity at Evangeline Downs.

Trained by Josue Ponce, Jordan Eagle made his local debut with a dominating 3 1/4-length victory in the sixth of 11 trials on November 23. The colt, a $35,000 buy at last year’s Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, has earned $17,493 from four races.

Jordan Eagle drew post 10 and will be ridden by Jesse Levario.

Other contenders include Some Temting Dash, a homebred son of champion Tempting Dash trained by Larry Kopycinski for owners Rigo and Sally Flores. Some Temting Dash has banked $40,081 from eight outs, and the gelding was a finalist in the 400-yard, $406,000 Dash For Cash Futurity (G1) at Lone Star Park in October.

Some Temting Dash drew post 6 and will be ridden by Francisco Calderon.

Also on Saturday, fastest qualifier Three Bar Cartel heads a field of 10 sophomores entered back in the 400-yard, $159,060 EVD Derby.

A gray son of Capo de Capi trained by Josue Ponce for owner Ruben Garcia Montemayor, Three Bar Cartel has won six of 11 races and has earned $211,909, and his two wins in as many starts at Evangeline Downs include a three-quarter length victory in the third of seven trials on November 24.

Montemayor and Ponce will also be represented by Sr Shambles, a stakes-winning son of Desirio. Sr Shambles has banked $66,710 from seven races this year, and his three wins include a half-length victory as the 5-2 favorite in the 350-yard, $70,000 Old South Derby at Delta Downs in May.

Sr Shambles drew post 10 and will be ridden by Raul Ramirez Jr.

Saturday’s stakes schedule at Evangeline Downs includes the 400-yard, $40,000 LQHBA Louisiana Million Invitational (R) for state-bred juveniles. Armando Vasquez Rodriguez’s Fast Dashin Perry is coming off of a 1 1/2-length victory in a LQHBA Million Futurity (RG1) trial on November 16. The Ajs Fast Dash gelding drew post 2 and will be ridden by Rolando Cabrera.

Kaylee Walker’s Mr Desert Streak, a stakes winner during the current Evangeline Downs meet, drew post 2 for Saturday’s 550-yard, $20,000 EVD 550 Stakes. A 4-year-old First Down Mr Jess gelding trained by Trey Ellis, Mr Desert Streak will be shortening in distance off of his wire-to-wire, neck victory in the 870-yard, $30,000 Races and Aces Stakes (R) on November 3. Donell Blake will ride Mr Desert Streak.

A full field of 10 sprinters has been entered in Saturday’s 350-yard, $20,000 Sam’s Town Stakes. Ruben Garcia Montemayor’s Eye N Capo, a 4-year-old Capo de Capi gelding, will be shortening in distance off of his second-place finish, a neck behind winner SF Hot Pass, in the 440-yard, $75,000 Refrigerator Stakes (G1) at Lone Star Park on Ocrober 13. Eye N Capo drew post 2 and will be ridden by Jesse Levario for trainer Josue Ponce.
