More than $600,000 In Purses For Final All-Quarter Horse Night at Indiana Grand Racing & Casino

SHELBYVILLE, IN—OCTOBER 25, 2018—A total of nine races will be featured for the final all-Quarter Horse Night of 2018 at Indiana Grand on Saturday. Four stakes races will complete the card that boasts in excess of $600,000 in purse money for the sprinters.

Stakes action begins in the sixth race of the evening with the sixth running of the $84,520 Indiana Championships. Country Boy 123 from the Tony Cunningham barn has been tagged as the heavy favorite from post two at odds of 4-5.

The five-year-old gelded son of Country Chicks Man comes in from Ajax Downs and is currently on a seven race win streak. His last defeat was at Indiana Grand a year ago in the Indiana Championships when he finished second to Apollitical Man by one and three-quarter lengths.

L.D. Martinez will be aboard the talented sprinter for the first time as he seeks his 19th career win in 27 career starts. Ruth Barbour owns Country Boy 123, who has earned in excess of $250,000, almost all of which has been earned at Ajax Downs.

Country Boy 123 will face one of Indiana Grand’s favorites as Woop Dee Doo and Sergio Ramirez will challenge from post seven in the 400-yard dash. The gelded son of Good Reason SA has scored five of his nine career wins at the Shelbyville, Ind. Track and will be seeking his second straight win following an allowance victory in early October. Ricardo Martinez owns and trains Woop Dee Doo, who will begin at odds of 9-2.

The biggest purse race of the night will be contested in the seventh as 10 horses enter the gate for the 10th running of the $180,300 Miss Roxie Little Futurity. Martinez and Ramirez will team up once again with Nachito Coronel, the fastest qualifier in the trials.

The Habits Secret freshman gelding has won three of four races for Owner Patricia Del Rocio Lopez and will seek to increase his bankroll to six figures with a win in the Miss Roxie Little Futurity. Nachito Coronel begins from post three at odds of 3-5 in the 350-yard dash.

Three-year-olds will steal the spotlight in the eighth race, the 22nd running of the $122,520 QHRAI Derby. Tres My Heart was the quickest in the trials and has earned the early nod in the field with odds of 2-1. The Heart of the Cartel filly, owned by Jose Plascencia and trained by Hector Sanchez, will begin from post two with Giovani Vazquez-Gomez aboard.

Jess Shantastic, the other QHRAI Derby Trial winner, has drawn post five and is the second choice of the 10-horse field at odds of 5-2.

The final stakes of the evening will be the 22nd running of the $140,960 Governor’s Stakes, pitting 10 two-year-olds running at a distance of 350 yards.

Jess My Joy from the Martinez barn had the fastest qualifying time and will begin as the race favorite at even odds over other trial winners Hospitaliti (post five, 6-1), Thinkin Man (post eight, 8-1) and AJK Zoomin Beauty (post three, 15-1). Jess My Joy broke her maiden in the Governor’s Stakes trials with an impressive effort to be awarded favorite status of the field. The Mr Jess Perry filly begins from the outside post 10 with Ramirez aboard.

The final all-Quarter Horse Night will feature several events to complement the competitive racing program, including a special guest appearance by nationally known Quarter Horse racing analyst Martha Claussen.

Claussen will join Track Announcer Bill Downes for the “Wire to Wire” preview show and will provide additional handicapping and interviewing support throughout the night. Claussen will also provide free $2 race wagers and long sleeved t-shirts courtesy of the Quarter Horse Racing Association of Indiana (QHRAI) while supplies last outside of the winner’s circle.

The 16th season of Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horse racing continues through Wednesday, Nov. 7. Racing is conducted Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at 2:05 p.m. with Saturday racing beginning at 6:05 p.m.
