ALTOONA, IA-—SEPTEMBER 28, 2018—PV Quarter Horse Farms’ Flashing Candy, a homebred son of champion First Moonflash trained by Clint Crawford, is one of 44 juveniles entered in Saturday’s 350-yard Valley Junction Futurity trials at Prairie Meadows.
Flashing Candy is coming off of a Ruidoso Downs summer campaign during which the sorrel gelding ran fourth, two lengths behind winner MM Fourinthemorning, in the 400-yard, $1-million Rainbow Futurity (G1). Flashing Candy has earned $98,194 from four outs.
Bonifacio Quiroz will ride Flashing Candy from post 6 in the first of five trials.
Thomas J. Scheckel’s Aqua Flash, a gray daughter of First Moonflash trained by Shawna Manriquez, drew post 5 and will be ridden by Roberto Valero in the fourth heat. A finalist in the June 2, $1.025-million Heritage Place Futurity (G1) at Remington Park, Aqua Flash has earned $103,452 from five outs, and her four wins include a neck victory as the 2-5 favorite in the 350-yard, $62,000 John Deere Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge on September 15.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the October 13, $225,000-est. Valley Junction Futurity final.
Also on Saturday, Lisa M. Baumeister’s Rakin In Jo is among the 15 Iowa-bred sophomores entered in two 400-yard Polk County Derby (R) trials.
Rakin In Jo has won three of her four starts at Prairie Meadows, including the 400-yard, $66,000 Iowa Stallion Derby (R) on September 2. The Lil Kool Wagon filly drew post 6 and will be ridden by David Brown in the first trial.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $125,000-est. Polk County Derby final on October 13.
