CLAREMORE, OK—SEPTEMBER 6, 2018—Will Rogers Downs will open its 28-day fall Quarter Horse meet with a 12-race program on Friday. Post time for the first race is set for 12 p.m. (CDT).
Will Rogers’ opening-day program is dominated by 11 Black Gold 350 Futurity (R) trials, which have drawn 81 2-year-olds, headed by Remington Park stakes winners Mary Janes Hero and JS History Lesson. The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the September 23, $150,375-added final.<
Mary Janes Hero is a sorrel daughter of Valiant Hero trained by Rodrigo Covarrubias. The filly has earned $46,882 from five outs, all in Oklahoma, and she scored a nose victory at odds of 16-1 in the first division of the 330-yard, $70,000 FL Lady Bug Stakes (R) at Remington Park on May 28.
Mary Janes Hero drew post 2 and will be ridden by Jesus Salazar in the fourth trial.
A homebred son of champion FDD Dynasty owned by James Sills, JS History Lesson is coming off of a Remington Park spring meet during which he earned $54,359 from four races and won the 330-yard, $66,000 Laico Bird Stakes (R) on a sloppy and sealed track on April 21. The gelding drew post 6 and will be ridden by Jimmy Dean Brooks for trainer Eddie D. Willis in the 10th heat.
