One Famous Eagle Colt Commands $68,000 In TQHA's Yearling Opening Session

SAN ANTONIO, TX—JULY 27, 2018—When the hammer came down on Hip 48 to the tune of $68,000, JF Racing & Farm LLC acquired the sale-topper on day 1 of the 21st annual TQHA Yearling Sale in San Antonio.

Avyator, a bay colt by leading sire One Famous Eagle is out of the Royal Quick Dash mare Quick Moon Sign, a Grade 1 winning multiple stakes producing mare. A Texas homebred sold by AQHA leading breeder Bobby D. Cox, Avyator is a half-brother to seven stakes horses including Northlands Futurity winner Midnight Sunlight.

TQHA's opening 2018 session saw 88 yearlings of the 135 head offered gross $944,900 compared to last year's opening session that sold 9 additional yearlings for a total of $1,133,900.

Today's sale averaged $10,738 with a median price of $7,500. There was a 17% decrease in RNA's in he opening session today with 47 compared to 55 on last year's day 1.

Dillon Lane paid $57,000 for the second high-seller Hip 117, Alchlemyst, a Freighttrain B yearling, also consigned by Bobby D. Cox. The brown colt is out of the multiple stakes producing First Down Dash mare Zenergy.

Granada Farms, Agent for Mike Amburn sold the third high-seller on Friday, Hip 44 Temptinator to Mary G. Thompson. The Tempting Dash colt is out of the restricted Grade 2 winning A Game Dame by First N Kool. The sorrel colt is a half-brother to Sam Houston Juvenile Challenge(G3) finalist Jess Tee.

JF Racing & Farm LLC led all buyers on Day 1 with two purchases totaling $84,000. Jose Favian Hernandez paid $69,000 for two yearlings and Mary G. Thompson had two fro $63,000.

Bobby D. Cox was the sale's leading consignor on Day 1 with seven head grossing $206,700. Granada Farms, Agent had seven head bring $92,600 and Granada Farms, Agent for Mike Amburn sold two yearlings for $60,000.

Champion sire Tempting Dash led opening day sale sires (by average, two or more sold) with seven yearlings averaging $26,357. Multiple stakes sire Captain Courage had five yearlings average $16,340 and first-crop sale sire Kiss My Hocks had five yearlings average $16,300. Hes Relentless was the #2 first-crop sale sire with two head averaging $8,000.

The closing session of the TQHA Yearling Sale will get underway at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, offering Hips 139 thru 276.

All yearlings that pass through the TQHA Yearling Sale ring on Friday and Saturday are eligible for nomination to the 2019 TQHA Sale Futurity(RG3).
