SELMA, TX—JULY 24, 2018—Four official stakes, including three restricted to Texas-breds, headline Friday’s 10-race program at Retama Park.
Post time for the first race is set for 6:45 p.m. (CDT).
The night’s richest race, the 400-yard, $35,000 TQHA Classic Stakes (R), has drawn a full field of 10 state-bred runners, topped by Rene Amaro’s FDP Rock Solid. A 4-year-old son of Rock Solid Jess, the gelding faces Texas-breds off of his second-place finish, 2 1/2 lengths behind Eye N Capo, in the 400-yard, $50,000 Miss Polly Classic Stakes (G3) at Delta Downs on July 6.
FDP Rock Solid drew post 6 and will be ridden by David Alvarez for trainer Ismael Solis Guevara. The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments:

Trained by Porfirio Fierro for owner Horses of Fire Inc., DM La Jolla has earned $12,000 from two outs this year, and his season resume includes a neck victory at odds of 11-1 in the 250-yard, $20,000 Delta Dash Stakes on April 20. The 4-year-old Hiclass La Jolla gelding drew post 5 and will be ridden by Rolando Cabrera.

Seven distance specialists have been entered in Friday’s 870-yard, $20,000 Benny Pennington Memorial Stakes. Jerry Windham’s Stolis Pro, a homebred 7-year-old son of champion Stoli trained by Leon Bard, drew post 7 and will be ridden by Francisco Calderon in his season debut. Stolis Pro won four of his five outs at the 870 distance last year, including the $25,000 Governor’s Cup Marathon and $19,000 AQHA Sam Houston Distance Challenge, both at Sam Houston Race Park.
