Jess Move You After Second Derby In Rainbow Derby at Ruidoso Downs

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JULY 15, 2018—Ricardo Bernal and Reymundo Resendez's Jess Move You tries for his second Grade 1 derby win of the Ruidoso Downs' season when he starts in the Grade 1, $801,564 Rainbow Derby at 440 yards on Saturday afternoon.

Jess Move You won the Grade 1, $759,000 Ruidoso Derby last month and if he can win the Rainbow Derby and the Grade 1, $1 million (est.) All American Derby then his connections would take the first $1-million All American Triple Crown Derby Bonus.

The three-year-olds with the 10-fastest times from the July 8 trials qualified for the Rainbow Derby and the horses with the next 10-fastest times gained preference to race in the $100,000 Corona Cartel, also on Saturday at 440 yards.

There will be $1,000 added to the trifecta pool in Saturday's fifth race. The dash is over 400 yards and features a full 10-horse field of allowance horses. The deep race includes seven horses who have competed in graded stakes.

Jess Move You impressed in the Ruidoso Derby. The gelding got a sharp break from the inside post position and ran a spotless race. He reached the lead with 150 yards and then drew away to a confident three-quarter-length victory. The Apollitical Jess gelding was timed in :19.725 for the 400 yards.

In the Rainbow Derby trials, Jess Move You dealt with an off track on a rainy afternoon. The track was labeled as muddy (sealed) and he finished second to Political Attraction. However, he squeezed into the Rainbow Derby with the 10th-fastest qualifying mark of :21.867 for the quarter mile.

"He's doing as good as a horse can do," said trainer Rodolfo "Rudy" Valles. "He didn't care for the surface (in his trial). He broke well, but didn't kick in. I'm just happy to qualify and be in it."

Jess Move You starts from the sixth post position and Ricky Ramirez, who leads the Ruidoso Downs quarter horse jockey standings, rides him for the first time.

Victor Diaz's Sixes Crystal, a $27,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale purchase, was overlooked at 20-1 odds in the ninth of nine trials, yet came through with a one-half-length win and the fastest-qualifying time of :21.662. The Jack McCartney-trained gelding had won his maiden two starts earlier at SunRay Park while starting in his sixth race.

The Mr Jess Perry-sired Sixes Crystal showed promise in his Ruidoso Derby trial when he finished second by a nose.

Jose Enrique Ortiz rode him to the fastest-qualifying time to the Rainbow Derby and retains the mount. Sixes Crystal and Ortiz drew the fourth post position.

Darling Farms' Df Aj Green Leaves has been installed as the 3-1 morning-line favorite of the strength of her consistency. In her latest four starts, all against high caliber company, she has three wins and a second in the $364,000 Heritage Place Derby. This streak started when she took the $317,000 Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Derby by one-and-three-quarter lengths at 45-1 odds.

Df Aj Green Leaves, a $40,000 supplemental nominee to enter the Rainbow Derby trials, is being trained at Ruidoso Downs by Trey Ellis and made her first start for Ellis in the Rainbow Derby trials. The Apollitical Jess-sired filly responded with neck trial win as the 11-10 favorite and her time of :21.758 was the third-fastest qualifying mark.

Rodrigo Sigala Vallejo rides Df Aj Green Leaves and they start from the inside post position.

Corona Cartel Stakes

Melvin Neugebauer's homebred Uptown Dynasty is the 2-1 morning-line favorite in theCorona Cartel.

Last summer, Uptown Dynasty finished in a dead heat for the win in the Grade 1, $800,000 Ruidoso Futurity, was second in the Grade 1, $1 million Rainbow Futurity and sixth in the Grade 1, $3 million All American Futurity,

After an eight-month layoff, Uptown Dynasty returned in prime form for trainer Wes Giles. In his 2018 debut he was a stunning three-and-three-quarter-length winner of his Ruidoso Derby trial and then finished fourth in the derby as the 7-5 favorite. The son of leading sire Mr Jess Perry then won his Rainbow Derby trial and posted the 16th-fastest qualifying time.

G.R. Carter Jr. rides Uptown Dynasty from the outside post position.

Fly Baby Fly Partnership's Fly Baby Fly, a $180,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale purchase, looks to regain the form that saw her win last year's All American Futurity by one-and-three-quarter lengths and finish fourth in the Rainbow Futurity.

Like Uptown Dynasty, she was off all winter after the All American Futurity and came back in the Ruidoso Derby trials. The Ellis-trained daughter of champions One Famous Eagle and Higher Fire was eighth behind Uptown Dynasty in their Ruidoso Derby trial and then third in her Rainbow Derby trial with the 14th-fastest time.

Fly Baby Fly starts from the second post position with Rodrigo Sigala Vallejo aboard.
