SELMA, TX—JULY 11, 2018—Serendipity Rocks, a homebred gray son of Rock Solid Jess owned by Sarah Huskey, is one of 44 3-year-olds entered in Saturday’s 400-yard Retama Park Derby trials at Retama Park.

Serendipity Rocks will be making his first start since April 28, when he outran his 15-1 odds to win the 350-yard, $192,000 Sam Houston Derby (G3). The gelding drew post 8 and will be ridden by Noe Villatoro for trainer Esteban Rubio in the third of five trials.

Trainer Alonso Neri will send out two contenders, Three Bar Cartel and Thecartelofmiracle. A gelded son of Capo de Capi owned by Ruben Garcia Montemayor, Three Bar Cartel has earned $156,565 from five starts, and his four wins include a head victory in last year’s 400-yard, $354,000 Dash For Cash Futurity (G2) at Lone Star Park.

Three Bar Cartel drew the rail post and will be ridden by Jesse Levario in the third heat.

Thecartelofmiracle has banked $454,460 from 13 outs, and he ended his 2-year-old campaign with a neck victory at odds of 13-1 in the 400-yard, $874,000 Texas Classic Futurity (G1) at Lone Star Park. Jorge Linares will ride the gelded son of Tough And Good for owner Mauro Luciano Villareal in the third trial.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the July 28, $40,000-added Retama Park Derby final.
